This was my first time ever wearing the infamous Canadian Tuxedo. I must admit that I was apprehensive of mixing my denims. Even though I had see it done by various people many times, I doubted that I would be able to pull it off. Looking back, silly of me to think that. Boothang actually really liked this outfit. He tends to enjoy the casual sexy look.
I purchased all my pieces seperately on different excursions to my favourite spot Value Village. Or as I lovingly call it, VV Boutique--lol. I had been searching for a denim shirt but wasn't interested in spending $30, like I had seen in stores like Winners and Hudson's Bay.
I scored this long sleeve snap button shirt for $6.
These jeans were a great find on a day when VV was having a 50% off sale. They are almost a perfect fit and a great dark wash. Jeans like these can be dressed up with some stilettos, or worn casually with some flats when I'm out with my little ones. I personally like to roll the cuff of my skinny jeans. If I don't they often fall at an awkward spot that is not quite at the ankle. The price tag, a mere $4.
With the recent craze of fringe, I was beyond lucky to score these amazing Betsy Johnson booties brand new on my fave app Varage Sale. I am always buying and selling things on here. The original price of these awesome shoes were $138. I paid…. $20!!! They are comfy and cute. A rare thing in the world of shoes.
I definitely will have the Canadian Tuxedo in my rotation this spring and summer. Now that I know it works for me, I'll search for other denims to add to my wardrobe that will work in different seasons. I can't wait to get a summer version.
Send us some photos of you in your Canadian Tuxedo by DM on Instagram. I'm always looking for inspiration and we'd love to share your looks on our timeline.
Happy Friday JR!
On Saturday night, TK and I went to the Harry Jerome Awards in Toronto. This is an annual gala that showcases excellence within the black community in Canada.
We both decided to wear black (total coincidence) and our selections were a hit amongst our friends.
TK chose a studded cape-like blouse with a middle split; and paired it with a sequin mini from Joe Fresh. Her Lulu Townsend two-toned shoes added more glitz to her look as they had both gold and silver sequin that popped against the black base. She also added her own vintage silver layered necklace from Aldo to finish her look.
For the occasion, I went with a two-piece Express skirt and crop top ensemble from Hudson's Bay. The highlight of this outfit was the money I saved. Originally $295, I saved a whopping $218!!!! Mama loves a sale.
My Zigi G black label peekaboo platform had a cool snakeskin-like texture and the heels were jewelled with tiny rhinestones. I decided to wear my favourite wreath necklace, from Aldo to give my outfit a little more oomph.
Some other pics from our night….
All in all, we had a great night out with our friends. It's always fun getting a night out to get glam and be kid-free. What did you think of our looks? Did we make the grade? Feel free to leave your comments below.

It's Monday and TK and her boothang invite you to watch as they answer some questions about each other. They tease, laugh, and love one another. Find out who their best friends are, what unique habits they have, and where they met. This is just part one, so make sure you stay tuned for the second part.
Marriage is a beautiful thing! It will not always be a bed of roses, but when both parties are working at it, the sky is truly the limit.
Hope you enjoy. Start your week off right!

While we were enjoying an amazing event this past weekend in Toronto, one of my closest friends, was celebrating at her blog launch party in the dirty, dirty. ATL Shawty! (She hates when I say that-lol.) Khrystal of Love, Life & Learned gives you real talk 100% of the time and motivates throughout her weekly blogs and periscopes. She has been blogging for a little over a year now and is doing great things. She has spoken at various events motivating people young and old. One of her missions is to encourage people to go after whatever their dreams are, and to never stop pushing.
Khrystal brought the house down in true fashion in her tailor fitted white flower appliqué dress. She jokes that she could not even sit down in the dress for the entire event, but said it was well worth it. She was surrounded by well wishers and loved ones, who all applaud her success and accomplishments over this past year.
When she is not blogging and spitting truth, she is the Executive Director for Diamonds in the Rough Services in Atlanta, Georgia. It was established in December 2009 to serve people with developmental disabilities.
Khrystal holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Oakwood University, in Huntsville, Alabama and a Master's degree from Shorter University in Organizational Leadership.
SbK salutes this fabulous woman for doing her thing. She truly is a BOSS in all forms of the word. So if you haven't checked out this blog, make sure you do. If reading isn't your thing you can find her on periscope and facebook live, every week at loveliveandlearned.com.
Happy Friday Jr!
On Sunday afternoon, we headed into the city to attend the 1st annual Black Beauty Brunch. We honestly weren't sure what to expect , but this event was spectacular.
The day was filled with ample opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and spread our love and light with our fellow sisters-in-melanin. While we always spread love to our female peers, regardless of race, creed or colour, there is something very heartwarming about being in a room of black women showcasing that whatever skin we are in is beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing some of our old friends and connecting with new ones. Major kudos to London Ivy Products for putting on such a beautiful event. More pictures from the event are below in the photo gallery or on Instagram using the hashtag #blackbeautybrunch. To find out about future events please visit www.blackbeautybrunch.com. Also check out the event sponsors, London Ivy Products at www.londonivyproducts.com and Kinky Curly Yaki at www.kinkycurlyyaki for a great selection of skincare and hair enhancement products.
I thought that with April came spring. But this last snow that we 've been getting makes me feel like I should be bundled up with my mittens, hat pulled down to my eyes, and coat zipped up to my nose. No exaggeration, the weather has truly been that cold.
I wanted to showcase some outfits that have been thrifted in its entirety, from head to toe. Throughout the spring season, I will be posting outfits on #thriftedthursdays that are almost completely thrifted.
People often ask me where do I get my clothes and shoes and 8/10 it's from Valluevillage. I spend time walking and sifting through the racks to see what great finds I can place in my cart, try on and see if they are going to work for me. The key for me is definitely trying on all items and constantly popping in to see what's new.
Lets check out the outfit.
This kimono-style top caught my eye when I purchased it a few months ago. I'm not really a girl to wear the colour red, but I thought I'd step outside my comfort zone. I was seeing similar tops in Winners and Marshalls. When I compared prices and saw this piece for $3, I thought why not take the chance. The neutral shaded shirt underneath was something I had picked up at one of my many trips to just to expand the hues in my wardrobe. It came in handy for this particular outfit.
These jeans are one of my favs. It has a little stretch, but they fit comfortably and can be worn day or night. I really love the wash and cut.
The shoes were purchased for $6 and were in excellent condition. Aldo shoes are always a safe bet. Although the heel is a little lower than I usually go for, I needed to add a red shoe to the collection.
This outfit is one that I would wear on a casual evening out to dinner with a girlfriend or even a date with my #boothang since red is his colour😉
I love to save money anyway I can especially on clothes. I want to do more travelling and creating memories with my loved ones. Remember you don't have to break your pockets to look great. Stay tuned to Thursdays to check out my awesome thrift finds.
Happy Friday JR!
When I was in university, my grandmother was a nanny. One of the perks of her job was that she worked for some very amazing families that were always super generous. It was through one of these many acts of generosity that I was introduced to Stila Cosmetics. I have been a fan ever since.
So recently when I got my hands on a Stila trio lipstick set, I couldn't wait to give my old beloved a try again.
The Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick did not disappoint. This lipstick went on like butter and was not cakey, which I find can happen with some brands even when I exfoliate my lips. And talk about staying power. I didn't have to re-apply literally most of the day. Even when I was eating or sipping my macchiato. As a person who has only ventured into lipsticks in the last few years, I love a good matte finish. These lippies are a good fit for my melanin too. So I am more than happy to 'line and shine' this pout and be on my way.
Have you tried this product yet? What are your thoughts?
