There is nothing sexier to me, than a man with facial hair. Bar none. Nothing. Period. So it comes as no surprise, that I love Movember! This month-long homage to the moustache, not only gets my pheromones a-blazing, but more importantly sheds light on men's health. For 31 days, men don a moustache and beard in some cases (if No-shave Movember is your thing), but I hope they do more for themselves than talk the talk. Men listen to me...go to a doctor and get yourself checked out. We know you are manly, brawny and all types of alpha, and nothing can tear you down--but having a clean bill of health is nothing to shrug off.
Just think of it like your A-B-Cs:
A is for active. Increase your physical activity and watch your health increase as well. According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, exercise is directly linked to reducing risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. It also aids in boosting life expectancy.
B is for Bipolar and other mental disorders. With the changing demands of society, mental illness is on the rise. Many men suffer silently--knowingly and at times unknowingly-- from treatable mental and mood disorders. Currently, one in five North Americans suffer from some kind of mental disorder. Getting a physical can help to diagnose, treat and even prevent these issues.
C is for cancer. Testicular and prostate cancer are unique to males, but definitely something you don't want to add to the "1 for the boys" tally. According to the Movember Foundation, http://www.movember.com, prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in men. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in males ages 15-29. Although uncomfortable, there should be no excuse for not making sure things are great in your lower regions.
At the end of the day, the choice is yours gentlemen. But if you don't want to do it for yourselves, do it for your friends and families. They deserve all the time they can get with you. Oh and you know what else is sexier than a moustache? Good Health. Good health is definitely on the sexy list.
