Every year the Black Beauty Brunch elevates its game, so it’s a no-brainer that we'd have to elevate our fashion stylings as well. An annual favourite, you can be sure that the attendees of this event bring their Sunday’s best and serve! We try to stick to the 3 Fs when selecting an outfit: Fashionable, Functional and Fun!
B: This year I went for the colour-blocking trend which made its way back into this season’s fashion staples. So it was no wonder I was drawn to this awesome structured bodysuit from Mendocino. The pairing of fuschia against red made just the impact I wanted. It was a showstopper! Bold colour was an understatement; but my favourite detail was the ruffle that adorned the front—-a definite nod to haute couture on a budget. And for anyone who knows me the low back was just icing on the cake. For a mom that loves unique pieces but works at being budget-conscious, this reduced find at a cool $29 was a win-win all around.
Thankfully, I purchased the top before looking for pants. But I must say that finding a pair of red pants during the 2019 summer season proved difficult. Orange was without a doubt the choice colour of the season. But where there’s a will there’s a way! I found a great pair of red trousers on sale for 50% off at Guess, which complemented the bodysuit to a tee. Actually, many people stopped me to tell my how fierce my “jumper” was!
Last, I chose to tie this outfit together with a pair of suede and vinyl heels from Zara($29.99); and a red leatherette bag ($29.99) from Winners. They were the perfect accents to complete the look.
TK: This year I went for the pleated trend which I have been rocking for years. I’ve always loved pleated skirts and really love how it adds a bit of dimension. And the colour drew me to it, like moth to a flame! Yellows, mustards and oranges work so well with melanin complexions, so I was very excited to add this Zara piece to my collection. I was able to find it at Marshall’s for a total steal of $19.99.
I had an idea of what I intended to pair the skirt with, but after fitting all the pieces together, it was a bit underwhelming. That was until I recalled a cute cropped blouse I have been trying to wear all summer. The pattern was not overbearing, and had just enough colour to pull the look together. The blouse was purchased from my local Value Village $3.99.
For shoes I decided on my Zara fringe black open toe heels, which I found at one of my go-to consignment shops, Plato’s closet Scarborough. The final piece to this outfit were the accessories which I got online from SHEIN (earrings) and my purse from local retailer Fashaun Fyle--always a conversation starter every time I wear it.
